Last December 8, 2017, was our Christmas party with the Board of Director held at Bali– Bali Beach Resort, Island Garden of Samal. First, we had parlor games grouped into two, after the game we ate lunch while eating we started xchanging gifts and took a lot a pictures, then some of us the staff and the Board went swimming in the beach others in the pool. Everybody enjoyed the party, it was a Fun Day. “Happy Always Merry Everything.”
SECDEA here we come — the area is pristine that all were dazzled by the beauty of nature. God is so good in creating such remarkable scenery.
The accommodation offered is perfect, the food is so delicious and the ambiance is so serene, pollution free and we could hear the humming of birds from the distance. Flowers of various colors can be seen, captivating the hearts of everyone while guessing the kind of specie each represents.
Majority of the group explored the area, enjoyed the pool and the invitation of a clear and moving water from the sea is so tempting that the beach goers never hesitated in testing the cool water.
We gathered together once more in an exclusive area to listen the touching invocation led by Mrs. Adelaida S. Panaguiton.
Parlor games followed, participated in by those with strong legs and from the group that can still compete with the young generation.
The games generated group idea, communication, unity and planning. If there is communication from among the members of the team, certainly positive results are generated. Planning is one aspect that will help build a strong structure out of straws used as materials.
After the whole afternoon of joy and camaraderie, every one went home full of memories. The gap between the BOD officials and the staffs had completely reduced and apprehension over dealing with officers regarding office work was left in oblivion. The staffs have realized that officials indeed are down to earth, humane and can help alleviate whatever difficult task assigned to each.

In my readings on the Dissertation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Murdoch University, Western Australia, 1984 by HAYASE SHINZO, I discovered many historical information’s regarding The Economic Development done by the Japanese in Davao area, City and Province. Among them are the properties owned these Japanese Developers led by OHTA KYOSABURO and FURUKAWA, YOSHIZO. On pages 384-85 of this Dissertation we found.

The following information with heading:
“A LIST OF PLANTATION COMPANIES IN THE DAVAO GULF REGION JAPANESE-SHOWN ON THE MAP IN THE CIRCLES.”
One of these plantations is, THE PANGIT PLANTATION INC.,
Hijo Tagum, Davao, whose owner and major stockholder is our father, KASE MANJIRO. This was incorporated on 18th of December 1916, page 358.
This was granted to him by the Datu of Tagum, the uncle of our mother, ESPERANZA PANAMONGAN NAVARRO known in the community as “OGOI”. Thru her this plantation was granted to our father. To facilitate the ownership and cultivation of this property, “THE PANGIT PLANTATION CO., INC. was established with assistance of the OHTA DEVELOPMENT CO., Apart from the corporation our father and OHTA KYOSABURO had an INTERNAL AGREEMENT regarding the development of the plantation. I saw this AGREEMENT but I cannot read it because it was written in Nihongo. It was kept by our Japanese brothers-in-law YAMASHITA, KAKUZO who took over the management of the plantation after the death of our father. This Internal Agreement was lost during the war.
There are other plantations like that of our father and these Japanese owners have descendants like us who may not know this historical information.
There are also parcels of land developed by the Japanese thru “Pakiao” system. However, be it purchased or leased or Pakiao system, the properties were owned and developed by these Japanese developers; fruits of their toil and struggle.
I’m making this presentation addressed if it is worthy to be considered to the Japanese government through its appropriate Agency. Then, if this has its worth to consider, we request our PNJK legal counsel to assist us.
The ISSUE in this case is:
Our Japanese Ancestry came to Davao for economic development and progress, 1907-1941 which they succeeded.
The Japanese government declared war against the United States of America occupying the Philippines for three years and nine months December 1941 to August 1945. These Japanese developers had nothing to do with the WAR. It just happened that they are Japanese citizens. Japan lost the war. The Philippine government confiscated the properties owned and developed by the Japanese civilians.
These Japanese civilians have children by their Filipino wives and we are among them. We were destined to be the HEIRS of these properties.
Now, CAN WEM THE DESCENDANTS NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO CLAIM OUR INHERITANCE OWNED AND DEVELOPED by our Japanese Fathers?
I honestly believe that the rightful and legitimate Descendants of these Japanese Developers who own the cultivation of the Plantation either purchased, leased or PAKIAO system have the moral and legal right to CLAIM for COMPENSATION of the LOST INHERITANCE destined for them to receive from their Japanese Fathers/ Ancestors. They are VICTIMS of the WAR between the Japan and United States of America.
May I reiterate that they had NOTHING TO DO with the WAR. Their only FAULT if there is, is that they are Japanese citizens. Japan lost the WAR.
I’m requesting other Descendants whose fathers have property for them to inherit were it not for the WAR to come to our PNJK OFFICE so that we can verify your claim. I’m using the Plantation of our Father as an EXAMPLE.

The PNJKIS FACULTY & STAFF holds Spiritual Enhancement

Teachers really need a break and after a hard day’s work, a good rest and a good bonding moment with colleagues is a welcome treat sans the lesson plans, school paper works, and other related school activities.
Last October 29 – 30, 2013, the faculty and staff of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School had their much- needed break and ecumenical retreat. It was held at Brothers of the Sacred Heart, Catalunan Grande, Davao City. The place is so peaceful that is really conducive for the scheduled activities. The place is so green because of the beautiful plants and garden that make it so refreshing to the eyes. The female teachers and staff were housed at the big rooms on the second floor while the male teachers and staff were at the first floor.
The two-day affair made them closer to each other because they had more moments without the usual hassles of their school work and most of all for the spiritual enhancement making them closer to God.
The speaker, Brother Paul H. Andoy, SC, stressed about the power of prayer. Prayer can really help us because we could communicate with our Creator through it. We sang songs of praises that benefitted our souls. We also watched inspiring videos that lifted our spirits and enabling us to mind not only ourselves but also think of others. Series of activities were done and the creativity of each group presented to the enjoyment and amazement of everybody. Truly, the PNJKIS community is a group of talented and creative people.
We would like to thank, the School officials for their support, the Department Heads, the Guidance counselors of Elementary and High School who spearheaded the activity, and the Faculty and staff. We would also like to thank the staff of the place and the delicious food that they served.
And most of all, we give praises to our Almighty God who always guide and protect us. And along with the tag line, TAYO AY MAY GAWAIN, TAYO AY MAY MISYON, we were inspired not only to touch the lives of our students but to extend it to everyone.
Faculty and Staff in the Ecumenical Retreat 2013 held at Brothers of the Sacred Heart, Catalunan Grande, Davao City.
The High School Department is confronted with a very challenging season as the K to 12 curriculums gradually unfolds. We have now 1st year level coined as Grade 7 and the 2nd year level as Grade 8. Several changes are taking place most especially in the grading system because the grade/year levels like Grade 1, 2, 7 and 8 will now have letter-grade such as follows:
Advanced (A+) 95% and above
Advanced (A) 90% – 94%
Proficient (P) 85% – 89%
Approaching Proficiency (AP) 80% – 84%
Developing (D) 75% – 79%
Beginning (B) 74% and below
For a country like the Philippines we need to level up in the area of education so we can compete globally. Not everybody has the full grasp of this new curriculum but we in the academe are trying our best to bring the message of change to our students and parents.
This year the High School Department is blessed with 547 students, 141 of which are graduating.
On June 20 to July 4, 2013 our student named Eurel Bandoy, of 4th year level was the lone representative from the Philippines in the Japan Language Program for High School Students in Kinsai, Japan together with the other 41 students from USA, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries. It was an educational tour where learning cultural lessons such as Ikebana and Calligraphy was part of it. The whole delegation also visited the places of Nara, Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima. Eurel came back to Davao bubbling over with her experiences which she will never forget in her entire life.
Last September 2 and 3, thirty-five (35) Indonesian educators came to visit PNJKIS as part of their benchmarking activities in the Philippines. It was a great privilege to accommodate them here in our school and exchange our best practices, concerns as well as our culture.
Our Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts remained to be active in participating the council’s activities. On September 9 to 15, thirty-eight (38) Boy Scouts participated in the Davao-wide Jamborette in Malagos. PNJKIS was awarded as 2nd Place for the Biggest Delegation. This month of November, it will be the Girl Scouts turn to have their Davao-wide Encampment in CampCorazon and we are hoping to have a number of girls who will take part.
During the 21st Recorder Ensemble Competition in Calinan, on October 5, 2013, PNJKIS-High School level bagged the 1st Place.
As an institution, we will continue to do our best in molding the lives our of students despite the very challenging transformations in the area of technology, behavior, attitude and views in life. It maybe very tough but by God’s grace we can do it.

PNJK Calinan School Administrator
The Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School is now on its 8th year of operation by School year 2014-2015. We are now officially recognized by the Department of Education as a branch of PNJKIS Main Campus, offering complete elementary education and carrying the name PHILIPPINE NIKKEI JIN KAI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, CALINAN DAVAO CITY BRANCH.
Same as the main campus, we are also offering Nihongo Lesson to all levels in the elementary grades. Coping with the different programs of DepEd, we also sent contestants to some events though they didn’t come out winners but they were not at the bottom.
PNJKIS also offer summer classes in different subject areas such as reading, math and other curricular activities like drum, lyre, guitar and recorder playing lessons. This program also helps our non-permanent teachers to have an income during summer.
By the opening of classes, the school will be staffed with 13 teachers, 4 assistants, 2 Nihongo Teachers, a cashier, bookkeeper, 2 utilities and guards. As of now, we have already an enrollment of 114 and the grade 1 is about to close.
With the early visit of DepEd personnel to Calinan, they have recommended a bigger space for our library and computer room. So, the construction of an additional building good for 2 classrooms is ongoing, supported by PJNK INC. funds.
Fellow descendants let us continue to patronize our school and avail the different programs the school offers.
